Barbara L's Story

Hey there! I used to be so quiet I'm sure very few will remember me. I'm the total opposite now, probably a product of moving 23 times in 23 years! I lived on a 32-ft Chris Craft in Key Largo for a while, moved to Hawai'i, then to Alaska, New York and Vermont. Losing my sister, Jackie, in a single-car accident in Jan 1982 changed my life forever (as did breaking both arms in a nasty fall in July 2003), but I'm doing okay! I've had many adventures, including watching Alan Alda film a movie and being referred to a job in Hawai'i by Tom Selleck. I ran five loads of supplies into the depths of Homestead after Hurricane Andrew ravaged the area in 1992. I found myself driving through Hurricane Charley on a rescue mission, and making my way through devastated neighborhoods to rescue my parents between Hurricanes Frances and Ivan in 2004. My work resume' includes everything from bank teller to police dispatcher to executive secretary to newspaper reporter/photographer. After the 2004-05 Hurricane seasons, my friends have teasingly told me to add "storm chaser" to the list. I'm a (published) freelance writer, photographer, voice-over talent, and Stevie Nicks lookalike/soundalike lead singer. I own and manage several web sites. When people ask me what I write, I like to respond with, "I write about whatever needs to be written." Genres include, but are not limited to: news, business, documentaries, fiction, non-fic...Expand for more
